Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Title of Site:

PollEverywhere

URL:

http://www.polleverywhere.com/

Description of Site:

PollEverywhere.com is a fast, mobile-friendly website that allows users to interact in real time with audiences. It has both free and paid versions to suit the needs of the user. PollEverywhere does not have ads and it allows users to share and interact via the interface. While it is not designed or formatted specifically for education (ie students and teachers), it does lend itself naturally to a Web 2.0 capable classroom. This site is a good tool for students in upper elementary grades and up, due to the need for motor skill development and the ability to formulate answers at an appropriate pace. It could, however, work with younger students in a classroom with 1 to 1 computers or iPads and content appropriate for the students.

Educational Uses of Site

This site could be used to gather student knowledge on an upcoming topic to be discussed/learned about in class. It would provide the instructor with students' prior knowledge in order to help him or her more appropriately design lessons.

Review of Site

This site does have a number of applications for education, but the free version does have its limits. It can be used to ascertain prior knowledge, review important concepts before an assessment, and gauge student progress. It can be troublesome when not all students have a device or the internet connectivity is unreliable.
